The Sevillian company PlusVitech has been awarded with the 1st prize (Gold) of the AcexHealth program in the final competition (Investor Day) that took place last Thursday, February 2 in the building of the Foundation of the Health Technology Park (PTS) of Granada.
The AcexHealth Investor Day brought together in the same place more than twenty European and American investment funds in this second edition of the program that has just concluded and in which companies of different nationalities have participated.
The presentation of PlusVitech, made in English for the international audience, was given by its General Manager, Fran Guillén, who pointed out that “this award represents, apart from the economic support, an important backing on this complex path until the treatment can be made available globally for patients”. He also publicly thanked the organizers, sponsors, mentors and colleagues who have participated in the months that the program has lasted.
The jury, made up of different international experts and investors and managers from the healthcare industry, has awarded the four best participating companies from the healthcare sector in Andalusia. In particular, the award received by PlusVitech, called Gold award, is sponsored by ADAMED Pharma and has an economic amount of €10,000, plus an additional €1,000 provided by Covirán.
PlusVitech has recently managed to start a phase 2 clinical trial in advanced lung cancer, which is a major milestone for a small company in the pharmaceutical sector. Lung cancer is currently the cancer with the highest mortality rate, since it is estimated that 1.8 million people die each year from it worldwide and the survival rate is only 20% with current treatments.
For his part, Dr. Vicente Salinas, founder of the company, expressed his “most sincere thanks to this magnificent program that helps entrepreneurs in a sector that is so demanding, but at the same time so motivating”. He has also expressed his satisfaction with the company’s latest advances, although he points out that “we have started with lung cancer, but we will continue with other types of tumors that unfortunately are also very prevalent as they currently lack effective long-term treatments”.
